Hi, I’m Holly. I have a passion for cooking and love spending time in the kitchen with my two little girls. We have fun and make colossal messes for my poor husband, Garrett, to clean up. That’s right, I cook and he gets to clean. As I ran around my house one morning during the usual chaos that ensues when trying to get a one-year old (Kiki) and three-year old (Ava) ready to go so I can dash off to a glamorous job in the social services field. I noted a few rather daunting concerns; I am unable to locate any of my clothes due to needing a major professional organization system, I should have packed a diaper bag the night before, did the laundry and dirty dishes breed overnight?, and I am going to be late yet again. To my dismay, I once again have nothing in the fridge to cook for dinner tonight. I really don’t want to have the usual ridiculous conversation with the hubby that involves talking in circles for 2 hours over what sounds good to pick up for dinner.
I decided the answers to my problems were quite simple actually. I just needed to hire a cleaning lady and a professional organizer. Okay, so that really wasn’t going to happen. My expectations must remain realistic since I do after all work in the social services field! I decided to surrender to imperfection in the house and have a household with 3 yummy tummies.
The challenge was daunting. After all, creating meals for 3 picky eaters is no easy task. I decided my new mission would be to find recipes simple and delicious enough for the whole family to enjoy. I am excited to explore my love of cooking and to get out of my cooking rut.
I am by no means a professional cook, but my in-laws sure seem to enjoy coming over to our house to eat meals. Okay, so perhaps it is more to see the beloved grandchildren. In all seriousness, my passion for cooking began at a very young age. I remember cooking myself french toast for dinner around the age of 7 and also setting the microwave on fire around that time. Who knew that one should remove the twist tie from a frozen loaf of bread before defrosting it in the microwave? Anyways, my skills did progress to some degree through the years and I began cooking more elaborate meals for my family. I particularly enjoy hosting holiday brunches, baking, and cooking with lean white proteins (no beef or pork for me). It is my hope that this blog will allow me to continue to hone my cooking skills and explore new recipes and techniques. It is my aspiration to teach my daughters to cook along the way and have some fun bonding time (stay tuned for some hilarious video footage). I hope you enjoy this chaotic journey with me!
