A Spicy Pineapple Margarita is a refreshing cocktail with hints of sweetness and spice created by Chile Liqueur. Serve it over ice with a salt and chili powder rim followed by a garnishment of fresh pineapple and lime.
A margarita in the summertime is just so satisfying. This variation is perfect for those who don’t like their cocktail to be overly sweet. Leave that pre-made sweet and sour mix at the store and use fresh lime juice and agave nectar for a superior flavor.
Sweetener Alternatives
There are several different sweetener options that will work for this cocktail. I prefer to use agave nectar in my cocktails as an alternative to simple syrup created from regular sugar. However, Simple Syrup can easily be made from scratch if you don’t have agave nectar on hand. Just bring equal parts sugar and water to a low boil and stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Allow the syrup to cool completely before using. Store any leftovers in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Maple syrup or honey are also flavorful alternatives that will work to sweeten your margarita. It is really a matter of personal preference.
Spice it Up
I’ve been wanting to purchase a good spicy liqueur for awhile and decided to try this Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur. It adds the perfect bit of spice without being overpowering. Just keep in mind a little goes a long way unless, you really want to feel the burn.
If you don’t want to purchase a spicy liqueur, you can make your own Jalapeño Simple Syrup or muddle a slice or two of jalapeño with your tequila and sweetener of choice. I’ve also, even made candied jalapeños to garnish my margaritas with.
