These Zombie Brain Margarita Jello shots with triple sec, lime juice, lime-flavored Jello and gold tequila are perfect for Halloween parties. Top these little treats off with fake blood, gummy worms and a red sugared rim for a spooky effect.
These fun little shots have the flavors of a margarita with a bit of sweetness for an adult Halloween treat. The fake blood creates such a fun effect that can be used to decorate around treat bowls, for costume effects or other fun cocktails like this Vampire’s Kiss Martini.
Ingredients Needed
- 1 c. Gold Tequila
- 6 oz. package of lime flavored Jello
- 1/4 c. Triple Sec
- Juice of 1 lime
- 3/4 c. cold water
- 2 c. boiling water
Making the Red Rim and Topping
The red, sugar rim is made by mixing a few drops of red food coloring in with coarse ground sugar. Complete the rim by running a lime wedge over the top of the shot glass before dipping onto a plate with the sugar. You can also, use red sugar sprinkles.
- 3 tbsp. of coarse ground sugar
- 2 drops of red food coloring
Finish the shots by topping with gummy or sour worms and candy eyes. Lightly drizzle the candy eyes, sides and tops of the shot glasses with fake blood for a creepy effect.
Making the Fake Blood
The fake blood is simple to make. You will just need corn syrup, a bit of chocolate sauce and red food coloring. I used the below ratios for the perfect bloody color and texture. Feel free to use a bit more of each ingredient as needed for the desired color.
- 3 tbsp. Corn Syrup
- 1/2 Tbsp. Chocolate Syrup
- 3-4 drops of red food coloring
What kind of tequila should I use?
I prefer gold tequila over silver/clear, but you can use either one. I find the gold tequila has less harsh of a flavor and is better for making mixed drinks. The gold coloration is also perfect for making Zombie Brain shots.
Can these be made without alcohol?
Yes, you can make a kid-friendly version of these by just following the lime Jello recipe and adding it to shot glasses without any alcohol. Just follow the recipe instructions for the fake blood and red-sugared rim. Top it off with candy eyes and gummy worms. My kids really had fun with these.
