Glazed Orange Scones

These Glazed Orange Scones taste just like my favorite decadent treat from Panera! I'm in love with their cakey texture with crisp outer edges and that orange GLAZE! The perfect amount of sweet citrus taste to balance out these addictive confections.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 tbsp. orange zest
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. orange juice

Glaze:

  • 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/4 c. orange juice
  • 2 tsp. orange zest

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

  2. Cut cold butter into dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or 2 knives util mixture is combined and crumbly.

  3. Add egg, buttermilk, orange juice and orange zest; combine into mixture by kneading.

  4. Transfer to a floured surface and form into a large ball; slightly flatten.

  5. Cut into 8 even wedges and transfer to baking sheet with sides touching.

  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. Remove from oven and separate wedges; transfer to cooling rack.

  8. Once cool, add the glaze by generously spooning glaze over the tops of the scones.

Orange Glaze:

  1. Beat together powdered sugar, orange juice and zest until smooth.

Recipe Notes

You can make your own buttermilk by whisking a couple of tbsp. of lemon juice into the milk and letting it set for several minutes.
