These gooey butter cookies are perfectly sweet and delicious! They are so easy to make for a holiday dessert or cookie exchange. The main ingredients include yellow cake mix, sugar, butter, and cream cheese with a powdered sugar topping. The result, is the perfect ooey gooey cookie situation. Oh gooey butter, gooey butter, gooey goodness! I have to give a little love to gooey butter since it originated from the St. Louis area along with some other local favorites such as toasted raviolis and thin crust pizza. I admit to prefering New York style pizza, but I am definitely on the gooey butter train. Oh my…that sweet buttery taste with powdered sugar topping is undeniably delicious. It practically melts in your mouth! I have to be very careful about making these cookies…my husband will punish the entire batch in a matter of a couple of days. I literally had to hide some of these from him to ensure I had enough to take pictures the next day. He also, “shared them with people at his work” this week.
I made these cookies with my 4 year old daughter and mother-in-law along with some cookie cutter cookies. Oh my messiness! My daughter loves to participate in every aspect of rolling out the cookies and icing them (I continue to have nightmares of the disastrous mess). Sprinkles have probably made their way to my kitchen ceiling by now. Anyhow, we had a good time and I am so grateful to have a mother-in-law that always jumps in to clean up the mess!

I am wondering if you have made these cookies with the smaller boxes of cake mix and if you had to adjust anything, they look so good I would love to make some for Christmas.

Hi Peggy! Yes, I used the regular size cake mix box. We make these every year for Christmas!
